Why is there less dust in a vertical roller mill?

A vertical roller mill typically produces less dust compared to other milling equipment due to several reasons:

  1. Enclosed Grinding System: Vertical roller mills are designed with a fully enclosed system. The grinding area is sealed, and there are minimal points of dust escape, significantly reducing dust dispersion.

  2. Efficient Particle Separation: These mills are equipped with highly efficient separators that effectively classify and segregate fine particles from the air stream, reducing the amount of dust carried out with the exhaust gases.

  3. Lower Air Flow Rates: Vertical roller mills often operate with lower air flow rates compared to ball mills, which means that less dust is suspended in the air and more remains within the mill system.

  4. Integral Dedusting Systems: Many vertical roller mills come integrated with advanced dust collection systems, such as bag filters or electrostatic precipitators, which capture dust particles before they can escape into the environment.

  5. Direct Material Handling: The vertical orientation and direct feed mechanisms in these mills limit the number of handling stages, thus reducing dust creation from material transfer points.

All these factors combined contribute to the lower dust emissions observed in vertical roller mills, making them a more environmentally friendly and cleaner option for grinding.
