Quartz Ore

Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in Earth's continental crust, after feldspar. Its crystal structure is a continuous framework of SiO4 silicon–oxygen tetrahedra, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedra, giving an overall chemical formula of SiO2. Since antiquity, varieties of quartz have been the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hardstone carvings, especially in Eurasia.

Types of quartz ore:
According to color, there are many different varieties of quartz. Pure quartz, traditionally called rock crystal or clear quartz, is colorless and transparent or translucent, and has often been used for hardstone carvings, such as the Lothair Crystal. And some common colored varieties include citrine, rose quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, milky quartz, and others.

The solutions for processing quartz ore:
First, processing quartz ore should control the granularity well in avoidance of over-crushing and over-grading. Besides, in light of the existence of iron, the step of de-ironing must be carried out. For iron in fine clay minerals, rinsing method can be taken. For iron films, acid leaching, rod grinding, scrubbing and acid rubbing can be good ways to remove iron. Moreover, to remove the by-products like clay minerals, heavy minerals and feldspar, magnetic and electric separation, gravity separation and anti-flotation are used.
