A vertical roller mill (VRM) is a type of industrial equipment used to crush or grind materials into small particles. These mills use cylindrical rollers positioned vertically on a horizontal plane to exert pressure on a rotating bed of feed material, which can be in both dry and wet states. Feed Material Introduction: The material to be ground is fed into the center of the rotating grinding table.
Grinding Mechanism: As the table rotates, centrifugal force pushes the material outwards under the rollers. The material is ground primarily by compression, which is facilitated by the hydraulic or pneumatic pressure applied to the rollers. The grinding force is high at the roller properties, achieving fine material grinding.
Material Classification: A separator, integrated into the system, classifies the ground particles. The separator allows fine particles to exit the mill while returning larger particles to the grinding table for further grinding.
Drying: For processes involving moist materials, VRMs include a hot gas generator to dry the material during grinding. This drying gas is mixed with the raw material as it is conveyed through the mill.
Product Collection: The fine particles are collected in a baghouse or electrostatic precipitator, ensuring that the processed material meets the required specifications before it is conveyed for further processing or dispatch.
VRMs are favored in various industries, particularly in cement production, due to their efficiency, energy savings, and consistent product quality.
