What chrome ore used for ?

Chrome ore, primarily composed of chromite, is a crucial raw material used in several industries. The primary uses include:

  1. Metallurgical Industry: The most significant use is in the production of ferrochrome, an alloy of chromium and iron, which is a critical component in stainless steel manufacture. Stainless steel, which contains between 10-20% chromium, is highly resistant to corrosion and heat.

  2. Refractory Materials: Chrome ore is used to produce refractory bricks which can withstand high temperatures and are essential in lining furnaces, kilns, incinerators, and reactors.

  3. Chemical Industry: Chromium compounds derived from chromite are used in the tanning of leather, pigments for paint, inks, and plastics, as well as in the electroplating process to provide a shiny, corrosion-resistant coating to metals.

  4. Foundry Sands: Chromite is used as a molding material in metal casting because of its high thermal conductivity and resistance to thermal shock.

Overall, the versatility of chrome ore makes it indispensable for numerous industrial applications.
